They've got a good MC5/James brown-thing going, and they've got a good taste in instruments. A good ol' Fender strat, a Rickenbacker 450 and a two-pickup Mosrite bass.

They remind me somewhat of Led Zeppelin and Rory Gallagher. I saw Rory perform in Amsterdam in the 70s ;)

Small world Sarah ;)
Listening again, I can hear some Jefferson Airplane (minus Grace Slick), The Who and even THE VENTURES (!) from their "Underground Fire" album!
(and to think I was brought up on church- and some serious Classical music...LOL)

Cool that you saw Gallagher way back when. :) Good bluesman!
I really like what I've heard from "Underground Fire"! Were the Ventures still using Mosrites at that point?
To me, those groups you mentioned are a bit like church music. The gospel to which I listen and learn from.

Could be but personally I think that new young session guitarist Gerry McGee -who had replaced Nokie Edwards in 1968- brought along his own Les Paul (type?) and was probably playing it too.

Great new half hour video documentary of a Man or Astro-Man? show from 2008, with a healthy dose of Mosrite stage time.

Most of the footage is of the band playing Hallmark swept wings and 60 Customs (which I love, anyway), but I spotted Starcrunch playing his white Ventures-branded Mosrite on a few of the tunes.

Hi folks,

I thought I'd put a link to a clip of our band... The AmpFibians... with my Combo in action. This was filmed live at a club in Latonia, Ky by a local surf DJ here in Cincinnati... MidWest SurfGuy . There are other clips with more Combo action but this link is to an original song called... Beatnik Beach.
