Yeah all of those are great starting points. Joey Ramone was the singer Johnny Ramone was the guitarist. The guy holding the micrphone in the picture above is Joey.

Ah, yes! I have a DVD of the Ventures called “SUPER SESSION” (recorded 1985, released 1989) in which some artists are interviewed and I remember a “Joey Ramone” quoting The Ventures as being an early influence on him! (Did you know that?!) Here’s a screen grab for ya…

When I heard that Phil Spector was going to produce a Ramones album I thought it would be the best thing ever but I was very disappointed. Johnny's usually razor sharp guitar sound was dulled somewhat and I thought the whole production sounded thick and muddy.
You can't beat their first album I reckon.
What an eye opener.

I´ll agree that Phil Spector´s sound didn´t quite work with the harder rockers on that album, but it suited Joey´s material beautifully - Rock n roll radio and Danny Says alone are worth the price of admission. The fact that Dee Dee´s "worst ever material" (his own words) was on the album didn´t help, either.
That said, I really like the Ramones "bubblegum trilogy" (End of the Century, Pleasant Dreams and Subterranean Jungle), but I agree that you can´t beat the first two albums. If they called it quits after that they´d still deserve a place in the rock canon.

I didn't go for Pleaseant Dreams much but Subterranean Jungle is a ripper. I reckon that one pretty much covered all bases—production and song-wise.

I love all their albums but some are better than others for sure.

My all time favs are the first 4 studio and (Ramones,Leave Home,Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin) Its Alive.

After that its pretty touch and go with the band losing members and changing drummers. I thought Mondo Bizarro was a nice comeback but a bit too late. Still though there are great songs on every album! Not every album is great though.
