A seder is a meal during the Jewish holiday of Passover in which the story of the exodus from Egypt is recounted. There are foods which are symbolic of aspects of the story - matzah (unleaved bread) for the rush to leave not allowing time for bread to rise, horseradish for the bitterness of slavery, parsley with salt water to represent tears of oppression and four glasses of wine for the four times in the bible that God promises Moses to free the Jews from slavery - wine is removed to acknowledge the suffering of the Egyptians in the ten plagues.

Interestingly, the famous last supper in which Jesus gathered with his disciples was a seder.

I'm just back from a seder at my mother-in-law's house. No Ramones songs were sung. :)

And I thought growing up Catholic was painful! Why all the suffering? I'm convinced that Catholic and Jewish mothers have been conspiring for generations to make us feel lousy around the holidays. The Jewish moms want you to feel the suffering of their people, while the Catholic mothers want you to feel guilty about ANYTHING

I'd insist on 4 very large glasses of wine for all that suffering. Fortunately, Catholics don't need no stinking holiday to drink excessively. Happy holidays,

Boy do I ever know what you mean by that zarfnober, being an ex alterboy,we had to taste test the wine before the preast was allowed to drink it just to make sure it was safe for consumption. LOL

Something tells me that priest had a different reason for you drinking wine  I never had even a single thought or wish about being an altar boy. In fact, I pretty much despised going to church. Still do. I mean don't.
