Was Surf Rider inspired by Terang Bulan?

I just discovered this song and half of it is Surf Rider or something very similar:

Theses are various versions of it I found online. In the last one you never hear the Surf Rider stuff in it. Maybe it was just an addition that was made to the song?
The song dates back to being written between 1780 and 1857 by Pierre-Jean de Béranger. I'm not sure if the actual melody that comes in between verses that sounds like Surf Rider was in it originally or added later. Anyways just a thought and a question if anyone know if Nokie had any inspiration while writing Surf Rider that he has mentioned before at some time?

Interesting observations ZacJM but personally, I don't think so.
The Ventures are hugely popular with Asian and Indonesian peoples too and I'm not surprised that parts of Surf Rider have been woven into some tunes, especially the Indonesian "Terang Bulan" perhaps.
As you say, no Rurf Rider stuff in this Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL6eQBaVgNc so that could already answer the question (i.e. "no").
Interestingly, part of the song is sung in the Dutch Language and not surprisingly, Indonesia being a former Dutch Colony
Surf Rider is a Nokie Edwards written piece and originally released on Ventures' album "Mashed Patatoes & Gravy" in 1962 under the name "Spudnik", fitting in nicely with the album title BTW.
It was later renamed because another band swiped the tune from The Ventures but named it Surf Rider. The name stuck and The Ventures went along with it
Having said all that however, who is to know where Nokie got his inspiration from?
