Ventures Model Combo or Celebrity?

Postby ZacJM » Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:53 am

I found these photos:

And was wondering if besides the Ventures model if they had endorsed or got their name on any other Mosrite guitars? The photo shows them playing a different model or at least holding them and I was just curious if anyone had any incite on this?

I believe that the first pic was a studio shot for the album cover that had 'the Horse' on it.
Those guitars they are holding are 'the Combo' Model ;) .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

I've never heard of a "Ventures" Combo nor Celebrity. I doubt if they put their names on them, although I've seen plenty of pictures of them with a Celebrity.

Check out the "Mosrites in Gospel Music" thread - there's an unusual Maphis-style body with a Ventures logo that I noted from one of my album covers ("Smitty Gatlin and the Friends")

I just spent about 20 minutes and finally found in the "Off Topic" thread titled "Mosrites in Action" related to the Combo. However when you call up the Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YQwRXoY9-U, the pop-up screen now says "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."
I don't remember the tune, but the video showed the Ventures playing Combos where at the end of the tune, one by one, each member fades out on the screen.
And of course, I think this was the VID that showed 'the Ventures Model' on the Combo's headstock

p.s.- There was also a '65-'66 Doubleneck Ventures Model in the 'Vintage Guitar' Calendar some years back. It was basically a Joe Maphis Doubleneck, however this model also had Trem-Units on BOTH necks! ......
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

That sounds super cool

I think that photo of the band must be the last Ventures/Mosrite promo shot. 'The Horse' album is pretty good lot of fuzz and funky J.B. covers even some Flip Wilson (Here Comes the Judge). Along with '100000 Weekend' it seems to be overlooked all too often. Did they use combos on the recording? who knows, but '100000 Weekend' does have a very different sound.

I think the song in the vid was "Intermotion Phase"

I'ld prefer a Combo over a Celebrity. Sorry Sarah.

No soup for you!

The next time I visit Artie I plan to play one of his Combo's, if he lets me.
