Hey--

Just chiming in to second the recommendation for Angela.com. I've bought from them for years and they are good and also prompt at shipping. Of course, they are only about 30 miles from where I live, but still.

They also have had in stock some stuff I could find nowhere else. One thing I recall was a period-correct unfinished single-screw maple thumb rest for my '51 Precision Bass Reissue. I looked all over the Net for one of those, and even had a couple of friends try making one for me with mediocre results.

Then a band-member buddy walked into practice one day and tossed me the thumb rest I had been looking for, and it was perfect! I said, "Where did you find one of those!?!?!?" And he had gotten it from Angela.com.

He lived in Annapolis Junction, so I don't know if he went there, or called them or what, as I didn't see it on their website prior to that.

But I was pleased to get that thumb rest. The pricey Fender Custom Shop '51 Precision Reissues had that unfinished maple thumb rest, but not the MIJ ones.

Try the link I gave above for a greast selection of parts and pickups. I'm surprised they even have jazzmaster pickups, however, I don't know if they are jazzmaster look alikes or if they are the proper assembly. Here is the URL again: http://angela.com/

Thanks!

It is my understanding the AVRI Jazzmaster is identical to the original Jazzmaster. As far as the pickups go I have compared mine to a AVRI and if you close your eyes you can't tell the difference by just listening. When you get into the Japanese Jazzmater guitars that is where the difference begins. The Japanese guitars are great but they are not the same as the AVRI. Different wiring gauge, different pots, etc. However, I don't know if they use the American Jazzmaster pickup or if they make the pickups in Japan. If you get a AVRI Jazzmaster I'm sure you will be satisfied as long as there is nothing that has been modified or damaged on it. It's kind of like getting a Hallmark instead of the Semi Mosrite.

As a kind of side note if you are looking for great Fender parts try this site: http://angela.com/

Not meaning to hijack your thread olrocknroller but it started up an old itch in me
Soooooooo, guess who is the happy new owner of this baby?! :D :D :D

Way to go, Paul! That's a great-looking guitar. I have never owned a Jazzmaster, but have for a long time admired them. Great score - enjoy!

Thanks, Dennis. To quote someone else: "there is nothing else that sounds like a Jazzmaster" :P

Very nice, Paul! Wow! I love my Jazzmaster, and you are 100 percent right on: nothing else sounds like 'em.

OlRocknRoller, good luck on the project. I'll be watching this thread.
I have an original '63 JM in pieces right now that I must get serious about. It has a '61 Strat neck on it, so I really have TWO projects to get done: 1. refinish and find a "correct" neck for the '63 JM. and 2. build a Strat around my fantastic feeling Brazilian rosewood slab-board Stratocaster neck. Decisions...decisions...money.

Nice score! I have just had a sunroom added to the "Honey-do" list, so there may not be much guitar building this summer! I might end up just shopping for a Jazzmaster! 8-)

Super score, Paul!

You guys are killing me! I've been severely GASSING for a Jazzmaster. Of course, I want an original early 60's in pristine condition for under 3K
I saw an original 1958 Jazzmaster in good shape on ebay that sold for $6800 last month!

Great project, olrocknroller. Update us with pics!

Thanks guys!
olrocknroller, that sounds like wise thinking :) There are two fine ones at the moment on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251009624257?ss ... 1438.l2649
(ending in 9 days 22hrs from now)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260964238415?ss ... 1438.l2649
(ending in about 5 hrs from now)

Mine had a BIN price of $ 1,475.00 but the seller invited offers...so I managed to knock off 175 bucks off the price.
(I know, we Dutch are generally of the haggling kind)

BTW the disadvantage of not living in the USA is having to pay about $360.00 on import duty!! :o

Good luck!
