While having my morning coffee I decided to give the MOP a whirl to see what that is like to work with.

First I used some acrylic plastic to make a "template" of the "S" curve that I want. This is only for the first block as each block gets smaller and smaller in height so the "S" curve will change for each block. My goal was to make a template that will allow me to be consistant with the degree of the curves.

Image

Using the template, I used a fine tip Sharpie to make the S curve in the center of the block.

Image

The trusty jewelers saw cut through the MOP just fine, but it is definately harder and therefore a little more time consuming that the turqoise.

Image

Once the cut was made, I now have the left and right sides of my inlay block.

Image

I used my baby files to dress up the edges and make sure my "seams" are going to be nice and smooth.
Image

Satisfied with my two sides, I then cut out the center from the turquoise. This is the rough cut that will be filed and fitted between the two pieces of MOP. I'll do that tonight as I ran out of time this morning and had to get to work!

More to come!

So you're a poet too...
A fascinating tour of unusual surroundings -the insides of one sound chamber! Sarah, if you hadn't told us, I daresay we'd never 've known! Thanks ;)

You are so funny! As for the sound chamber tour, my pleasure. It helps me to understand the guitar a little better if I have a peek at how it was constructed and what is in there. I discovered a couple of metal objects that I will need to remove to add my extra sound holes.

Today's update.

This morning I cut the remaining pieces for the first fret marker. It is comprised of three pieces in total. They are about 95% fitted and require some light sanding to get the pieces the same thickness and remove any minor speed bumps. I laid the three pieces onto transparent tape so that I can handle it and photograph it.

I put the marker on the old fretboard of the guitar. This is the damaged fretboard but it is cut to the proper width and I have yet to cut the new one to lenght and width. So, ignore the old thumbnail marker and it should give you an idea of what I'm going for. One image is with a flash and one image is in natural light.

With a flash.

Natural Light.

I need to get some other work done before I start on marker number two.

Just looked at your photos again, and remembered your earlier concerns about the extra openings weakening the top...that support under the bridge should make those concerns fade away...
