Hi All,
I'm the Dan from the Murph Guitar website and the "guy in the middle" in Terry's Nov 2005 photo.

Some have wondered who the giant was that I alluded to in the history on my site.
Well despite the passing of 40 years & the statute of limitations, Pat and the Murphy family were quite adamant that I didn't mention by name the company that brought them undone. Despite Pat's passing, I'm still a man of my word but I can give you a clue! At the 1966 NAMM show the guitar showcased was the Squire with it's "OFFSET" body ..... that's what did it ( hint, hint )

Despite only a passing resemblance to the other more well known OFFSET BODY designs, the game was on!
The company that put the squeeze on the Murph had just been sold early 1965 and the new business plan seemed to be " go hard and crush the opposition" .... which was done.

That, the Vietnam war robbing the US of it's youth and the flood of Japanese imports killed off many small companies in '66 through '68.

So, that's the story ....... ;)

Old thread, but I stumbled upon a Murph Squire sighting in no less than Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. As the boys would say "Most Excellent!!!"
