Ric-O-Sound Thingy?

hey guys,

wasn't sure to place this under other instruments or ebay, but anyway, does anyone know what this thing does? it's new to me.

It gives you access to the "stereo" jack on a Rickenbacker.

Rickenbacker stopped selling these a while back.You can still find them on eBay but at a stupid high price.You can make your own if your handy . All you need is a 2"x2"x3" project box,three jacks and a few pieces of wire.Needs no batt. It just splits the signal between the neck & bridge pickup to go to seperate amps.But you do need a Ric stereo guitar .

Isn't it just a fancy one of these? I've never used one, but besides two amps, you could potentially use it to run two channels on a single amp, like a Bassman or a Showman. Not sure how much you gain from it, but it's kind of cool just for the wacky factor. Wouldn't work on any of the Fender _ Reverb amps as the channels are out of phase.

Why wouldn't it work? You are not jumping channels but rather sending a signal straight from the guitar as if you had 2 guitars plugged in to it.

It would work . Using the box lets you use different length cable to seperate two amps as far apart as you want for a stereo sound.Using one amp kinda defeats the stereo sound. Also on the Ric guitar there is a blend knob to ballance the sound as you want.

The Ric-O-Sound box takes an input from a stereo cord. It will only work with a guitar that has a stereo output on one jack, like a stereo Rickenbacker or a Gibson ES345/355. It provides a separate output for each of the two pickups--on three-pickup Rickenbackers, the middle pickup is wired in with the neck pickup. The stereo Gibsons came with a Y-cord that did the same thing. I guess the idea was to run each pickup through its own amp and effects. At least the Rickenbacker allows the option of running in mono through the Normal jack--on the Gibsons, to run in mono you need to either modify the Y-cord (what I did with my old ES345) or rewire the guitar's jack.

Thanks for explaining how it works Jon. I've always wondered how 'stereo' could be gained from electric guitars -they all seemed to give off a mono signal anyway, but now it is clear to me. I was thinking (wrongly) that strings 1, 2 and 3 had possibly one channel allotted and strings 4, 5 and 6 the other...
