NGD! Birthday suprise

Postby KRamone27 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 5:57 pm

My birthday was on monday and I came home to find this sitting at my back door. Squier classic vibe 50s' strat, not crazy about the gold pickguard but I think I'll change to a tortise shell pickguard.

Hey Kevin,

Happy 30th Birthday!

What a great surprise. Those Squier Classic Vibes are one of the hottest things going with Fender these day's. That gold guard is designed to replicate that guitar as a 1954 Stratocaster. I wouldn't change a thing, but play and enjoy the heck out of it.

Thanks Dennis it's anodized and has a strange feel to it but the alnico 3 pickups sound great though. The pickguard on the 2-tone classic vibe 50s' strat is plastic and pretty thick compared to a standard strat.

I wouldn't change it either. I kinda like the gold. Nothing wrong with a Squire, I've got 3 Squire Strats and a Squire Tele. 2 of the Strats are early Japan made ones, an '85 or 6, and an '87, and they are built like tanks...the '87 was my main guitar for about 10 years.

Nice! Personally, I don't mind the look of the gold pickguard, but tortoiseshell on a white guitar sure looks cool! Leo Fender felt the aluminum (or "aluminium" for you Brits) pickguard would help with shielding, and it does, but they can have a tendency to discolor as the anodizing wears off. If you wanted to keep the gold look (doesn't sound like you do!), you could get a clear pickguard and spray it gold on the underside, a' la Gretsch. I agree with you--I think the tortoiseshell looks better. I've never understood why Fender didn't make more Strats with tortoise guards back in the day.

Congratulations x 2 Kevin! ;)

I always hear the early Japan-made Squiers are the best. Is yours brand new? It looks stunningly good -don't you dare change a thing!... :x ........ ;)
But seriously, I find the gold goes very well with the Maple.
