'Bought a rather nice Boss Dr. Rhythm 'bout 5 years ago at a late night SA super sale moment of GAS /cosmic dumbness, and rarely if ever use it. Nothing wrong with it, just does not fit with the usual aimless play-what-comes-to-mind state of stream of consciousness.

Anyone else have different or same experiences?

I actually play drums, but sold my drumset due to lack of space in our house. After that, I purchased a boss drum machine. I didn’t like it, I found it too hard to program, and the pre recorded tracks weren’t to my liking. I did end up trading the drum machine in for a computer program called EZ drummer. It is really cool. I use it with Sony Acid. I can record the pre recorded loops in Acid, change them, and create my own drum loops. I’m glad I made the switch. It allows for a lot of variety. I posted this video of my dogs swimming…the song in it uses the EZ drummer software.

I agree with this statement…I just couldn’t really get creative with the drum machine. the drum software I use helps.

Many years ago I bought a Metronome to help me keep time and perhaps help me create my own tunes...found it doesn't work very inspirational so it stays in the box. I simply use backing tracks; one of the best ideas that came along for practicing my leads

I used to collect and restore vintage analog drum machines. The best was a Chamberlin Rhythmate. The oldies were a lot of fun, and cheesy. But just like anything the prices went up, so I sold most all of them. I found that getting 2-4 of them going at the same time, trying to get the tempos to work and whatnot was fun, and could be pretty inspiring. Other than that, they were just novelty to me.
Never found a "modern" drum machine or looping program that held any interest for me.
And I refuse to make records with sound replacing. Maybe that's why I don't have to do much studio work these days....
