Chemo was telling us about Elixir Guitar cables in the "Guitar cables" thread. Not wanting to sidetrack the thread, I started this new one since there's a lot to be said about strings too

My brand-new Fender VRI '57 Strat (Sunburst) was set up the other day by my luthier with Elixir strings (10/46) and I must say I am absolutely amazed at the sound they produce!
When my Hallmark 60 Custom needs a fresh set of strings I shall definitely try Elixirs out on her.

Yes, Elixir strings are great!

I use them now in all my guitars - even my acoustic Little Martin. The coating gives them a very long lifetime, this is important also with backup and other guitars that are not played very often.

Another thing about the coating: it slides beautifully over the nut. This can help with tuning problems!

I have Elixir strings on my '78 355, and Ovation Celebrity- great sounding, and long lasting strings.

good strings.....reasonably priced....never let me down....oh sure....
You will always get that one set where you might pop an E or B string,
but that can happen with ANY Manufacturer of strings ..............

Agreed, I've been using Ernie Ball Super Slinkys .009-.042 for going on 7 years because the D'Addarios were always breaking and losing their clarity

Have you tried DR strings? They are compression wound so a set of 10's are tight like a set of 11's. The opposite of slinky's. I've been using them for around 10 years now. Actually I've got an endorsement with them from my days on the road playin' the Blues. If you like a little tighter feel in a light string try'em, they stay in good tune also.

hey I been using DR 9's since I was in high school. I switched from ernie balls (which i still use on a lot of my guitars) but I noticed that the dr's lasted longer, and broke less then any other string I've tried. also the compressed wounding increases output.

i love elixirs on my ovation acoustic, but i never liked them on electric.
