Bass amp for bedroom jam ?
What's a decent sounding small not too expensive bass amp that would serve for jamming with backing tracks on the computer? I'm looking into ordering one of those Behringer BXL900 Bass Amp for $179 which includes shipping. I'm a guitar player and rarely would use it myself, but would like for it to be of decent sound and volume for when I have friends over we can jam together without the amp farting out.

Behringer amps are a great bang for the buck amp. I own a 4X12 cabinet that I use with my Marshall JCM-900 and it sounds great. For the price you can't beat em.

For the same reason that dubtrub has, I'm thinking of getting either an Ampeg BA115 or an Ampeg B-100R (Rocket Bass) -(both are combo's). They're more expensive but perhaps I need too look for a good second-hand one...

I went ahead and ordered it. I get tired of rolling out the big amp just to play a few licks and put it away. If it is junk then I'll sell it to some unsuspecting soul.
Not!

Re: Bass amp for bedroom jam
I got the new amp yesterday and had a chance to put it through it paces. First off I was disappointed when I unboxed it as it is huge compared to what I was expecting and wanting. I should have gotten the 40 watt 10 inch speaker size as it's overall dimensions are much smaller and would no doubt served my purpose just fine. However, when it comes to sound and performance. Wow! This thing can be dialed into a really great sounding amp.

Danny,
Nice Combo setup! Forty Watts is MORE than enough for the Bedroom or Small Gathering. But the beauty of that
little Beast is that you also have a line out which can be fed directly into a P.A. if need be for louder Venues

Re: Bass amp for bedroom jam
Like I said the 40 watts would have been great, this one is 90 watts. Just a wee bit more than I need for playing in the home. Oh well, if anyone ever brings a drum set over to jam with at least the amp should keep up.
That is the Mosrite bass I got last year that had the extremely bowed neck. You may recall I removed the neck and truss rod and straightened with with counter pressure for a couple of weeks, settling the neck back to it's proper straightness, then adjusted the truss rod to it's maximum. Well, sitting in the closet over the winter, the neck resumed it's bow. I made up a slighter larger dimension truss rod and mounted it from the rear and that cured that problem for good. Unfortunately collectability is now gone as it has to be adjusted from the rear. The headstock access plate simply covers the bottom end of the truss rod.
It was a choice of keeping it original and non playable or modfy it to be servicable.

Oops, I meant to say 90 watts is more than enough.
Besides, I really don't think you would of been to happy
trying to get a decent big Bass Sound out of one tiny
10" Speaker. At least with the 12" you will get a bigger,
warmer sound

Re: Bass amp for bedroom jam ?
I reckon you can play your bass through the smallest of pocket amps if you have to but a 100 watts (solid state) Bass Amp seems to be the starting point for bass players anyway, so I think you made the right choice Danny. Congrats and have fun!
