Hey, Connie Mack--

Obviously there is truth in what you say here:
>>i would have to say that it really is just a brain thing. some folks have minds that
>>are naturally steel guitar minds . . .

This one fellow just picked it up almost instantly, and these other folks I know and respect-- they are MUCH more talented than the average person-- have had to really struggle to learn it.

All are very smart people, but not all could hop onto steel-guitar with immediate results.

That being said, although I can never do it myself, I greatly admire those who can. Some of what George Harrison did at the end of the Beatles period and after is just stunningly beautiful.

He did it on a regular guitar using a slide, I guess.

I play my brother's lap steel all the time. It's fun to tinker with. The nice thing is you can tune them anyway you want. But what I'd like to get is one of those Rogue sitars. :D

Good luck Danny. Does the Rogue have a stand or is it truly a lap steel?

Those Mel-o-bars make me dizzy, like an M.C. Escher print:

Well, I've now put in several hours with this thing and I play about like Mel's abstract photo above. It's coming along slowly but it isn't as enjoyable as when I was nine years old learning to play an accoustic guitar.

Mel, it is a lap steel. I paid $199 for it but an original that this was copied after just sold on eBay for $182. Oh well! http://cgi.ebay.com/antique-supro-lap-s ... 1c128e6ce7

Yet here is another one for $1199. http://cgi.ebay.com/1945-Supro-Lap-Stee ... 3025787711

At least mine came with a nice gig bag........ Which is probably where it will spend the most time. ;)
