Tommy...wow, this is a great-looking guitar! Very unique........you're a good man, Charlie Brown, donating the profit of your other guitar for a benefit...
Would love to hear how it sounds and plays.....

Re: My latest Gretsch toy
That is indeed a very exclusive guitar. I would also bet that the pine top would help in softening the sound a bit from another with the maple top.

Re: My latest Gretsch toy
pur-tee kewl gee-tar.
congrats! I know nothing about gretsch guitars but had a customer talking to me about them and said that the guy that first made them in NYC did a bad job, and then they were bought out by a japanese company(???) and were made better after that. I kinda thought this was BS because I'm convinced that the US makes the greatest guitars in the world, but I dunno. please forgive my ignorance on this guitar company. any light shed on the topic is always a good thing

Cheers,

Re: My latest Gretsch toy
I know that Chet Atkins and Duane Eddy played Gretsch guitars, and I played one a long time ago....plus a number of forum members play them as well....to me they are a solid, well-made guitar that have that sound that many people like. I think people associate country music with Gretsch, but not necessarily.....this one is really unique.

Re: My latest Gretsch toy
The Gretsch story is a long one. They are well made guitars and as with all brands they have had good periods and not so good periods. The low point probably being when Baldwin owned Gretsch from about 1968 through the 1980's. It's interesting how a brand can get pigeon-holed into a music genre, but rest assured Gretsch guitars perform very well in any music genre from Country to Rockabilly to Rock-N-Rolle to Punk and so on. Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Brian Setzer, Chet Atkins, Billy Gibbons, Bo Diddley, The Edge (U2), Billy Zoom, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Jeff Beck, the list goes on and on.
The pro line Gretsches currently produced in Japan are pretty tough to beat, especially for the price. I know people with custom shop guitars costing five times more who say their factory Gretsch is just as good. Of all of the guitars I've owned in my life I would say my favorite electrics are Mosrite and my Gretsch Anniversary, and my Gretsch acoustic (G400) is hands down the best acoustic I've ever played including the Gibosn J200.

Re: My latest Gretsch toy
Agreed, the new Gretsch guitars are some of the best out there, even Billy Zoom says so. And yes, I almost hate to admit it but I think my custom shop doesn't play quite as well as my Japanese made ones. The custom shop sounds much better but I could have saved some $ and just put the Duncan dynasonics in a Japanese one.
